Staff, their families and special invitees were treated
to a spectacular evening of singing, dancing and fashion at the Bank’s
7th Annual Diwali Cultural Evening celebrations on Sunday, October 26,
2008 at the GBTI Recreational Centre.
The programme commenced at 16:00 hours with the lighting
of the ceremonial diyas by Mr Radhakrishna Sharma – Chief Executive
Officer and Mrs Nandanee Persaud – Manager, Parika Branch.
This was followed by a Diwali Invocation Dance performed
by members of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha Nritya Sangh. The feature
address was delivered by Mr Radhakrishna Sharma, who explained the significance
of the festival and its relevance to the progress of the individual
in life.
According to the Chief Executive Officer, “people
of all walks of life can appreciate and respect how faith strengthens
our individual lives and by extension our families and communities.
The Hindu tradition, as one such faith, encourages its followers to
seek spiritual and moral truth wherever it might be found, through his
or her own systematic effort, and has sought to recognize principles
and practices that would lead any individual to become a better human
being.”
Artistes from the Soesdyke Mandir Kirtan Group entertained
the audience with Diwali & filmi songs while staff of the Bank were
captivating with their performance of a medley of songs. The evening
also included dances by the Cummingslodge Mandir Dance Troupe and Apex
Academy Dance Troupe.

The highlight of the evening was a splendid display
of the different wraps of saris and the latest men’s wear modelled
by members of staff.
The programme concluded with the sharing of sweetmeats
and happy interaction among staff.
