2004-11-17. Community Business Workshop at
Vreed-en-Hoop Branch
The series of Community Business Workshops planned
for 2004 concluded at Vreed-en-Hoop Branch
on November 17, 2004. These workshops are part of the Bank’s commitment
to offer guidance to customers in the communities where its branches
are located.
The topics for the workshop focused on measures for
prudent small business management such as debt management and cash management
techniques along with the benefits of bank financing. Facilitators at
this final session included Mr John Barnes, Senior Manager-Inspection
Division, Mr Terry Gopaul, Manager-Advances, Mr Sean Noel, Junior Manager-Research
and Planning, Ms Hermia Cumberbatch, Branch Manager, Mr Ameer Hassan,
Senior Supervisor-Vreed-en-Hoop Branch and Ms Ashmini Das, Marketing
and Public Relations Officer.
Additionally, Mr Ramenaught Bisram, Deputy Regional Chairman Region
3 addressed the participants and urged them to make use of the material
presented in their quest to improve their businesses and hence, become
more competitive. He also commended the Bank for hosting this workshop,
which is the second in Region 3 for the year.
2004-11-10. Diwali
Cultural Evening at Anna Regina Branch
On Wednesday November 10 2004, the GBTI Anna
Regina Branch hosted its 5th Annual Diwali Cultural Evening. Over
the years, this event has become an integral part of the Diwali celebrations
in Region 2 and it is usually well attended by residents of the community.
In his welcome address, Mr. Mario Farinha, Branch Manager
extended Diwali Greetings on behalf of the staff and thanked the community
for their continued support. He also highlighted some of the services
offered at the branch and invited non-customers to come in and benefit
from superior customer service.
This year, the audience of approximately 1,400 to 1,600
persons enjoyed a more than 2 ½ hour programme that featured
dances, singing of bhajans, a skit and a ceremonial puja. The performances
were done by members of various mandirs throughout Essequibo Coast along
with staff of the Branch. Staff also distributed sweetmeats to the audience

2004-11-05. Primelife Saving Account Prize
Giveaway 2004
The
competition for GBTI’s first Primelife
Savings Account Prize Giveaway was held during the latter half of
the year with account holders having a chance to win two prizes –
A Trip for 2 to Baganara Island Resort and A GBTI Gift Certificate.
The competition closed on October 31, 2004 and a computerised drawing
was held on November 5, 2004.
The
winners of the GBTI Primelife Savings Account Prize Giveaway 2004 were:
- First Prize – Mr John Piggott
- Second Prize – Mr Orilall & Mrs Gowmatti Orilall
Prizes were presented at Water Street Branch on November
11, 2004 and Vreed-en-Hoop Branch on November 16, 2004.
2004-11-03.
Commissioning of the expansion of Vreed-en-Hoop Branch
A ceremony commissioning the expansion of GBTI Vreed-en-Hoop
Branch was held on November 3, 2004. The Honourable Prime Minister,
Mr Samuel Hinds gave the feature address in which he congratulated the
Bank and pledged the Government’s commitment to competition in
the banking sector.
Mr
Robin Stoby S.C, Chairman of the Board of Directors,
in his welcoming remarks stated that the renovations represented an
investment of approximately $100M and resulted in the doubling of teller
positions and banking hall space, creation of a loan office, inclusion
of a commercial deposit area and upgrading of the ATM facility. This
expansion is due to the enthusiastic response from the community and
has greatly improved the ambience in which business is conducted.
In his address, Mr R.K. Sharma, Chief Executive Officer
reaffirmed GBTI’s commitment to building value-added relationships
with its customers by providing excellent banking services along with
guidance and support through our community business workshops. He also
commended the Government for affording the Bank the opportunity to participate
in housing financing and proposed lending for capital projects undertaken
by Government.
In
closing, Ms Hermia Cumberbatch, Branch Manager reiterated the Bank’s
responsiveness to the needs of its customers and confidence in the community.
She also thanked customers for their support during the renovations
and the architects for completing the job with minimal disruption to
customer service.
